4th April Is International Pillow Fight Day
It's not just Easter-time this weekend... on Saturday it will be the 7th annual International Pillow Fight Day!
On the 4th April, from Achill Island, Ireland, to Wroclaw, Poland, people will be packing their pillows and heading off to flash-mob style events in cities all around the world.
Whether feather, micro-fibre, down or memory foam, pillows will be the weapon of choice for many thousands of people, in an International Pillow Fight Day event somewhere near you.
There are very few rules to the events, but we like the fact that the website recommends not hosting them in parks, but in other public spaces, like town squares, notably somewhere that is the last place anyone would expect a full-on pillow fight to erupt.
The only rules are basically as follows, and from experience we're pretty sure people ignore the last one:
- Swing lightly, many people will be swinging at once.
- Do not swing at people without pillows or with cameras.
- Remove glasses beforehand!
- The event is free and appropriate for all ages.
- Wait until the signal to begin.
- Feather-free pillows only!
Trawling the web you'll find a multitude of great videos showing what fun these events are. We're quite fond of this snappy little video from the Paris event.
Last year we at Dormeo ventured down to the Trafalgar Square event and thwacked people upside the heads with our new Octaspring pillows. You can find the nearest Pillow Fight to you on the International Pillow Fight Day website HERE.
So how does an Octaspring pillow fare in a pillow fight?
1. Breathability for better flight
The hollow structure of the memory foam springs throughout the pillow creates a clear airflow, which enables a more aerodynamic swing.2. Weight
Octaspring pillows are not so heavy, but they're not so light either. They have a good structure to them, and certainly carry more weight than a microfibre-filled pillow. If you want to inflict some violence on other participants you'll find the contents of a traditional feather pillow will move around, dropping to one side creating a better object for hitting, whereas the Octaspring keeps its shape nicely. Better for both parties!3. Impact
The cover of the pillow is made of a very soft, smooth fabric, and so will be less abrasive on the skin than many other older pillows.4. After-event cleaning
The Octaspring cover is removable and machine washable at 30º, meaning if it gets dusty and mucky you can simply wash it at home without damaging the pillow after the event.5. Internal springs make great snowballs!
Our Octaspring pillows are built on a foundation of individual memory foam springs. Because we at Dormeo have access to an endless supply of these things, we are able to bring something completely different to the party. They come in different densities and strengths and some really fly quite a distance! Great fun!Our unique selling point - the Octaspring memory foam spring. Also makes a great snowball:
